L&D Levels
There are four types of learning and development: Compulsory / Brother specified training (level B), Development in Current Role (level C), Development for a Future Role (level D) and Community Engagement activities (level CE).
Level B. Compulsory
As these are courses required by Brother UK, you receive these pre-approved courses on the Toolkit iOS or Web app through your administrator. These courses do not require any line manager or budget approval, nor does it require post-training review.
Note
You will receive a notification (push notification on your iOS device, a web notification from your browser if the Toolkit is open, and an Email) informing you that you
- completed the course; or,
- can start the course. To complete an ongoing compulsory course, see Adding Hours and Completing an Ongoing Course.
Level C. Development in Current Role
These are L&D courses that enhance your job skills, develop and broaden your job knowledge and enrich your current role. When adding or applying for an L&D course, you identify whether the course is for your current role or future role. Although this is your discretion, your L&D Officer has the option to change your application into development in future role (Level D).
Level D. Development in Future Role
These are L&D courses that prepare you for a future role. As in development in current role, your L&D Officer has the option to change your application as development in current role (Level C).
(CE) Community Engagement
These are practical activities that benefit you and your colleagues, or BUK in general. These are usually done outside of your normal role / job, or outside of the work setting. This includes activities like mentoring that can help to enhance yourself as well as your colleagues, volunteering for your local community, serving on a board for a not-for-profit organisation, or supporting sponsored charities and organisations.
L&D Achievement
Depending on your grade, you are expected to achieve the minimum L&D targets within the calendar year. You can see your L&D targets as well as your progress in the following sections:
In some grades, hours done in community engagement activities can be applied against your target L&D hours. For example, to achieve development in current role (level C), you are required to complete 10 L&D hours during work time or community engagement (CE) during work time interchangeably. Assume you completed 8 L&D hours for level C and 5 CE hours at the end of the calendar year. The Toolkit will automatically add 2 CE hours against your level C requirement and awards you with a level C achievement. The remaining 3 CE hours may then be applied to another level, say to level D, as may be applicable.
These rules are automatically computed, giving you immediate visibility of your achievement as you log your hours in.
